How did you start on your spiritual path?

I wanted my life to be one of service and of spiritual growth but had not found anything that was changing me for real. I was praying without knowing I was praying for God to speak to me, to find my path and lead me to it. When I first came to meet my teachers, I was skeptical because it didn't look like I wanted it to look. Jesus and Mother Mary were hanging on the walls and I was confused as I looked at my nose ring, my lotus tattoo, and the buddha pendant on my neck, "Really, God? Could this be real?" I had a hard time opening up to Western path that involved the words God and Jesus. However, I kept having experiences of love beyond anything I had ever known. I was seen by these teachers in a more accepting and clear way than I had ever been seen before. Through many personal experiences, asking many questions, and wavering for a couple months, feeling afraid to leave the way of the world for the real path that I had been dying for inside, I came to know Jesus myself and to know Mary as well. It was no longer an issue to grapple with the concepts of them because they had become real, I had been meditating with them and feeling them inside my being. At this point I came to focus more on opening my heart than my mind....and I have been growing ever since.
